The housing stock in the Dunbar area of Vancouver has undergone significant change in the past five years. Originally a working class neighbourhood with many quite modest homes surrounded by lovely gardens, it is now a neighbourhood that 99% of the people working in Vancouver cannot afford because the replacement homes are built to the maximum footprint and cost millions. Greenspace has been reduced. Included on this website are photos of many (not all) of the disappeared houses.

Family Home Gone

To the left of this character house, there is a new build. That is the space where a 97-year-old Heritage B house was moved to Vancouver Island in 2012. You can see more information on that here.


This house was built in 1930, sold in May 2015, and demolished in October 2016. Note the pogo stick on the porch. The house and garage were assessed at $212,000, so it must have been a comfortable family home. Will it be replaced by something similar to the house on the left?
