The housing stock in the Dunbar area of Vancouver has undergone significant change in the past five years. Originally a working class neighbourhood with many quite modest homes surrounded by lovely gardens, it is now a neighbourhood that 99% of the people working in Vancouver cannot afford because the replacement homes are built to the maximum footprint and cost millions. Greenspace has been reduced. Included on this website are photos of many (not all) of the disappeared houses.

Built in 1924

Until I enlarged this photo, I missed seeing the designs on the front steps of this apparently well-loved house. It was probably for sale in the spring of 2011, or I would not have been alerted to photograph it at that time.

Three years later in the spring of 2014, the house was put up for sale again. It sold in March 2014 for $2,180,000. The small house is one of the early ones built near Dunbar Street in 1924, on a 50 foot lot, with ample green space. Note the mail piling up several months after the sale. Demolished March 22, 2015. Located at 3676 West 28th Avenue.
